Get Meat Suit, or the shitshow of motherhood tickets when they go on sale on New York Theatre Guide to see this raving, raging, and rare performance about the insanity of being a mom. Meat Suit, or the shitshow of motherhood plays this winter for a limited run at Pershing Square Signature Center.
Experience Meat Suit, or the shitshow of motherhood off Broadway, and heed a warning: motherhood is not for the feint of heart, and neither is this crazy play. The show's Obie Award-winning playwright and director Aya Ogawa has won the Doris Duke Artist Award (2025) and Helen Merrill Award for Playwriting (2023) and is known for bold and curious works. This one is just as brazen: a genre-defying feat, the play dives into the raw and hilarious chaos of motherhood.
Performed by mothers and acted for mothers (or those who love them, or those who have them), this new play features a potent cocktail of theatrical styles: bouffon-inspired physicality, sharp satire, original songs, and total absurdity. Under that humor and madness, a sneaky theme emerges: how in giving new life, mothers also surrender a previous one. That is not good or bad, it just is, and Ogawa explodes the reality of that in colorful and madcap ways through this singular piece of theatre that is not to be missed.
The play comes at a monumental moment for Second Stage: it is the debut season for its new Artistic Director Evan Cabnet and this season marks the Broadway debut of a popular play, Marjorie Prime, starring Oscar nominee June Squibb. New plays are foundational to Second Stage, and Ogawa's is true to that mission.
Come laugh, cringe, and cry through the unfiltered mess no one warned you about. Tickets to Meat Suit, or the shitshow of motherhood in New York will be available here soon.
