A recipient of an Edgerton Foundation New Play Award, this timely production from Tectonic Theater Project, creators of the highly empathetic and widely produced The Laramie Project, tells the story of Rebecca Erbelding, a real-life Holocaust archivist at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. After an unnamed box of photographs arrived at her office, Rebecca and her team look to make sense of the mysterious and shocking World War II-era photos within.
Meanwhile, across the Atlantic Ocean, a German businessman discovers the posted photos online and recognizes his own grandfather in the images. His parallel journey with the photographs takes him into a community he never thought he’d be in: descendants of Nazis. An intimate and hyper-personal reckoning of one family’s history, Here There Are Blueberries breathes new life into old photographs, sharing what they reveal about our history and humanity. Created by Tony and Emmy Award nominee Moisés Kaufman and Emmy nominee Amanda Gronich, and directed by Kaufman, the play now comes to New York following a smash run at La Jolla Playhouse in 2022.
Reviewing the show’s world-premiere 2022 production in La Jolla, California, Charles McNulty of the Los Angeles Times wrote, “Moisés Kaufman conducts this impeccable production with symphonic subtlety.” Don’t miss out on this unique and spellbinding play — tickets to Here There Are Blueberries off Broadway will be available soon.
