Wit, starring Cynthia Nixon, announces full cast



Manhattan Theatre Club's (MTC) has announced the full cast for the Broadway premiere of Margaret Edson's Pulitzer Prize-winning play Wit, directed by Lynne Meadow.

Joining the previously announced Tony and Emmy Award winner Cynthia Nixon as 'Vivian Bearing' will be Pun Bandhu (Technician), Olivier Award winner Suzanne Bertish (E.M. Ashford), Michael Countryman (Harvey Kelekian/Mr. Bearing), Jessica Dickey (Technician), Chiké Johnson (Technician), Greg Keller (Jason Posner), Carra Patterson (Susie Monahan) and Zachary Spicer (Technician).

Wit will open at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre on 26 Jan 2012, following previews from 5 Jan, and play a limited engagement through to 11 Mar 2012.

Wit follows a brilliant and exacting poetry professor (Nixon) as she undergoes experimental treatment for cancer. A scholar who devoted her life to academia, she must now face the irony and injustice of becoming the subject of research.

The creative team for Wit includes: Santo Loquasto (scenic design), Jennifer von Mayrhauser (costume design), Peter Kaczorowski (lighting design), and Jill BC Du Boff (sound design).

Wit had its New York premiere in 1998 playing Off-Broadway for over 500 performances from 6 Oct 1998 - 9 Apr 2000. The show garnered the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and was named Best Play by the New York Drama Critic Circle, the Drama Desk Awards, the Outer Critics Circle Awards, the Drama League, and the Lucille Lortel Awards.

MTC's upcoming world premiere of David Auburn's The Columnist, which had been previously announced for January dates, will now begin previews the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre on 3 Apr 2012 and open on 25 Apr 2012.
