The planned stage musical of the 1959 Billy Wilder comedy Some Like It Hot will now receive its world premiere on Broadway next year, it has been announced. The musical was previously reported to receive its world premiere in Chicago next year, however it will now open in New York in fall 2021.

The musical will feature a book by Matthew Lopez, music by Marc Shaiman, with lyrics by Shaiman and Scott Wittman. Casey Nicholaw will direct and choreograph Some Like It Hot.

Some Like It Hot follows Joe and Jerry, two jazz musicians who take it upon themselves to escape Prohibition-era Chicago and disguise themselves as women. Joining an all-female jazz band, they fall for the band's singer and ukulele player, Sugar.

The twentieth-century romantic comedy starred Marilyn Monroe as Sugar, alongside Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon. The movie went on to receive six Academy Award nominations and has been preserved by the United States Film Registry.

The Broadway stage adaptation is produced by The Shubert Organization, Roy Furman, Robert Greenblatt and the Nederlander Organization. A venue, casting and performance schedule are to be confirmed, however the musical is expected to open in fall 2021.
