Pre-Broadway World Premiere of Moulin Rouge! The Musical set for Boston

The stage adaptation of the popular movie musical will re-open Boston's Emerson Colonial Theatre in summer 2018.

"One Day I'll Fly Away..." to Boston! Yes, details have now been confirmed for the eagerly anticipated pre-Broadway world premiere of Moulin Rouge! The Musical. The limited engagement will officially re-open Boston's newly refurbished Emerson Colonial Theatre in late June 2018.

The Musical a reality."

The groundbreaking 2001 Oscar-winning movie musical, directed, produced, and co-written by Baz Luhrmann, is in the process of being adapted for the stage with a book by Tony Award winner John Logan, under the direction of Tony Award nominee Alex Timbers. The musical is currently being workshopped, with Broadway favorite Aaron Tveit playing Christian and Tony Award winner Karen Olivo as Satine. However, official casting for the Boston and Broadway engagements will be announced at a later date. 

The creative team for Moulin Rouge! The Musical will aslo feature choreography by Sonya Tayeh, scenic design by Tony Award winner Derek McLane, costume design by six-time Tony Award winner Catherine Zuber, lighting by Tony Award nominee Justin Townsend, sound design by Tony Award nominee Peter Hylenski, and wig & hair design by David Brian Brown.

Music supervision, orchestrations and arrangements are by Justin Levine, with Matt Stine serving as Music Producer. According to the press release, the score of Moulin Rouge! The Musical promises to "bring some of the most beloved popular music of the last 50 years to the stage".

Synopsis: "Moulin Rouge! The Musical tells the story of a young poet/writer, Christian, who falls in love with the star of the Moulin Rouge, cabaret actress and courtesan Satine using the musical setting of the Montmartre Quarter of Paris, France."

The 2001 hit movie has grossed over $179 million worldwide and earned Catherine Martin two Oscars ("Best Costume Design" and "Best Production Design") at the 74th Academy Awards, where it received a further six nominations, including "Best Picture". The jukebox musical starred Nicole Kidman, Ewan McGreggor and Jim Broadbent, along with John Leguizamo and Richard Roxburgh, and featured versions of popular songs such as "Lady Marmalade", "Material Girl", "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend", "One Day I'll Fly Away", "Roxanne", and "Your Song", as well as original song "Come What May".
