Little Women begins performances at off-Broadway's Cherry Lane Theatre on May 15, 2019.
Primary Stages has announced casting for its previously announced upcoming production of Kate Hamill's adaptation of Little Women, the classic novel by Louisa May Alcott, which is scheduled to begin previews at off-Broadway's Cherry Lane Theatre on May 15, 2019, ahead of an official opening on June 3 and a limited engagement through to June 29, 2019.
Joining Ms. Hamill (who will star as Meg) on stage will be Kristolyn Lloyd (as Jo), alongside Paola Sanchez Abreu (as Beth), Megan Byrne (as Hannah/Mrs. Mingott), Michael Crane (as Brooks/Parrot/Dashwood), Andrew Long (as Mr. Laurence/Robert March), Nate Mann (as Laurie), Maria Elena Ramirez (as Marmie/Aunt March), and Carmen Zilles (as Amy).
Kristolyn Lloyd is perhaps best known for her Broadway debut in Dear Evan Hansen and has also appeared Off-Broadway in Blue Ridge (for Atlantic Theatre Company), Paradise Blue and The Liquid Plain (for Signature Theatre), Invisible Thread (for Second Stage Theater), and Heathers: The Musical (at New World Stages).
Synopsis: "Jo March doesn't want to be like other girls; in fact, she's not even sure that she wants to be a girl. Jo is ambitious, rough around the edges, headstrong, and yearns for a future she can’t yet articulate. As the nation is torn apart by civil war, Jo and her sisters struggle with what it means to grow up. Gender roles, political beliefs, poverty, and even love itself threaten to break family ties, as the March sisters try to reconcile their identities with society’s demands. How do you stay true to yourself when the world wants you to become a perfect little woman?"
The production is directed by Sarna Lapine and features scenic design by Mikiko Suzuki MacAdams, costume design by Valérie Thérèse Bart, lighting design by Paul Whitaker, sound design by Leon Rothenberg, and music by Deb Abramson.
Primary Stages previously presented Kate Hamill's acclaimed adaptation of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice from November 2017 to January 2018, with Ms. Hamill also starring as Lizzy.
Little Women Tickets are available now for performances from May 15 through to June 29, 2019.
