Set in Alabama in 1934, Harper Lee’s To Kill A Mockingbird follows Atticus Finch, a small-town lawyer who represents a black man in a court case, with events unfolding through the eyes of Atticus’ daughter, Scout.

The stage adaptation of To Kill A Mockingbird is written by Aaron Sorkin, who said about the play’s return: “We’ve been waiting more than a year for Mockingbird—and all of Broadway—to come back, so this is a very happy announcement. I’m… excited for the electricity that Jeff, Celia and the whole cast will be bringing to the Shubert Theatre.”

Jeff Daniels will reprise the role of Atticus Finch, with Celia Keenan-Bolger reprising her Tony Award-winning performance as Scout. Further casting for To Kill A Mockingbird is to be announced.

In a review of To Kill A Mockingbird for New York Theatre Guide, Mark Shenton said: “Sorkin and his director Bartlett Sher stage it primarily as a scorching courtroom drama, folding it seamlessly with scenes from Finch's home life as his two worlds collide. Given the rise of white nationalism… a lot of this feels very current. But it also makes for gripping, seriously absorbing theatre”.

To Kill A Mockingbird is at the Shubert Theatre from Oct. 5, 2021.
