Dear Evan Hansen will be found in the record books! The six-time Tony Award-winning musical has become the longest-running show in the history of Broadway's Music Box Theatre. As of July 29, it had played 1,618 performances at the venue, and it will have played a total of 1,678 when the musical closes on September 18.

The previous record was held by the play The Deathtrap, which played 1,611 performances at the Music Box from 1978-1982.

The title character of Dear Evan Hansen is an anxious and lonely teenager who finds his voice by speaking up about a tragedy at school, though his platform is based on a lie that he must figure out how to get out of. The current cast features Stranger Things star Gaten Matarazzo as Evan's friend Jared Kleinman; Zachary Noah Piser stars as Evan.

The five-star New York Theatre Guide review of Dear Evan Hansen reads, "Every aspect of what you see, hear and feel hums in perfect harmony throughout the piece. The songs, by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, are poetic expressions of real human stuff that dove tails perfectly with the storytelling." The musical's book is by Steven Levenson.
