Daniel J. Watts to return to ‘Tina: The Tina Turner Musical’ on Broadway, as full casting named

Performances resume at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre on October 8.

This cast is “Simply the Best!”. The full cast to star alongside Adrienne Warren in Tina: The Tina Turner Musical on Broadway has been named. Tina: The Tina Turner Musical resumes performances at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre from October 8.

As previously announced, Adrienne Warren will reprise her titular role in Tina on Broadway. Warren originated the role in the world premiere production, which opened at the Aldwych Theatre in London in 2019.

Daniel J. Watts will return to the role of Ike Turner, with Myra Lucretia Taylor reprising the role of Gran Georgeanna. Both performers are currently nominated for best performance by a featured actor and actress in a musical respectively at this year’s Tony Awards ceremony. Dawnn Lewis will play Zelma, with Jessica Rush as Rhonda. Nkeki Obi-Melekwe will return as the alternate Tina Turner.

The Tina: The Tina Turner Musical ensemble is completed by Juliet Benn, Steven Booth, Nick Rashad Burroughs, Gerald Caesar, Julius Chase, Ayla Ciccone-Burton, Holli’ Conway, Kayla Davion, Leandra Ellis-Gaston, Charlie Franklin, Judith Franklin, Matthew Griffin, Ari Groover, Sheldon Henry, David Jennings, Ross Lekites, Robert Lenzi, Rob Marnell, Jhardon DiShon Milton, NaTonia Monet, Phierce Phoenix, Justin Schuman, Allysa Shorte, Eric Siegle, Carla Stewart, Jayden Theophile, Skye Dakota Turner, and Katie Webber.

Tina - The Tina Turner Musical follows the public and private lives of Anna Mae Bullock, a young Tennessee woman who grew up to become the vocal powerhouse Tina Turner. Tina: The Tina Turner Musical songs include “Proud Mary,” “Private Dancer” and “Nutbush City Limits.”

The original book for Tina - The Tina Turner Musical is by Katori Hall with Frank Ketelaar and Kees Prins. Phyllida Lloyd directs, with choreography by Anthony van Laast, scenic and costume designs by Mark Thompson, lighting design by Bruno Poet and sound design by Nevin Steinberg.

Currently, Tina - The Tina Turner Musical is nominated for 12 Tony Awards. The 74th Tony Awards will take place on September 26, and you can read more about the Tony Awards ceremony here
