Phone rang, door chimed, out goes Company. The award-winning revival of Stephen Sondheim's musical has set a closing date of July 31. At the time of closing, the show will have played 268 regular performances and 32 preview performances at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre.

The announcement comes just over a week after the Tony Awards, when Company became the most awarded musical of the 2021-22 season. The show picked up five Tonys out of nine nominations, including Best Musical Revival, Best Featured Actor and Actress in a Musical (for Matt Doyle and Patti LuPone, respectively), and Best Director of a Musical (for Marianne Elliott). Elliott became the only woman to win three Tonys for directing (beating her own previous record as the only woman to win twice) and the only woman to win for directing a play and a musical.

Under Elliott's direction, Company, originally about a 35-year-old bachelor named Bobby debating whether to settle down, becomes a bachelorette, Bobbie, grappling with the same question. She's surrounded by married friends and casual lovers, many of whom are also gender-swapped in the production, including Doyle's Jamie (originally Amy). In a series of vignettes, they all share their perspectives on love to help her decide.

The New York Theatre Guide review of Company calls the reinvented show "welcome and authentic" and reads, "it's impossible not to feel something deeply for this story."

The cast of the Broadway revival includes Katrina Lenk as Bobbie, LuPone as Joanne, Doyle as Jamie, Terence Archie as Larry, Etai Benson as Paul, Nikki Renée Daniels as Jenny, Claybourne Elder as Andy, Christopher Fitzgerald as David, Greg Hildreth as Peter, Rashidra Scott as Susan, Christopher Sieber as Harry, Tony nominee Jennifer Simard as Sarah, and Bobby Conte Thornton as P.J.

Elliott's Company revival originally premiered in London's West End in 2018, winning four Olivier Awards including Best Musical Revival. Only LuPone moved across the pond with the show when it transferred to Broadway, marking the third revival of Company in New York since its 1970 premiere. The musical played its first Broadway performances in March 2020 before the shutdown, starting up again on November 15, 2021.
