Bedlam to present Off-Broadway production of Arthur Miller’s The Crucible
Artistic director of Bedlam, Eric Tucker has announced the theatre company's return to New York as it presents a production of Arthur Miller's play The Crucible at the Connelly Theater from November.
The play was written by Miller in 1953, and dramatizes the story of the Salem witch trials which took place in Massachusetts Bay Colony in the late 17th century. It was first performed on Broadway in 1952, and won that year's Tony Award for Best New Play.
Recent productions include the 2016 revival, directed by Ivo van Hove, which starred Ben Whishaw, Sophie Okonedo and Saoirse Ronan at the Walter Kerr Theater.
Bedlam's production of The Crucible will run at the Connelly Theater for a seven-week period from November 8, with an official opening on November 21, and a final performance on December 29.
A cast, creative team and ticket information for The Crucible will be announced in due course.
Announcing the production, Tucker said: "I look forward to diving into this play that I've admired for years. The Crucible is a great fit for Bedlam because Miller's writing and the setting for the piece are very sparse which is in keeping with Bedlam's aesthetic and it is also a great fit for this moment in time".
The Crucible will begin previews at the Connelly Theater on November 8.
