'Almost Famous' sets Broadway cast and dates

The musical is an adaptation of the hit 2000 film.

UPDATE: Almost Famous will play the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre and has announced new performance dates. Performances will now begin October 3 ahead of a November 3 opening night.

It's all happening! The musical adaptation of Almost Famous is coming to Broadway, and its run dates have been set. Performances will begin September 13 ahead of an October 11 opening night at a venue to be announced.

The cast has also been named, with Casey Likes leading as William Miller alongside Chris Wood as Russell Hammond, Tony Award nominee Anika Larsen as Elaine Miller, Solea Pfeiffer as Penny Lane, and Drew Gehling as Jeff Bebe.

The Almost Famous Broadway cast also includes Rob Colletti as Lester Bangs, Matt Bittner as Larry Fellows, Chad Burris as Vic, Gerard Canonico as Dick Roswell, Julia Cassandra as Estrella, Brandon Contreras as Silent Ed Vallencourt, Jakeim Hart as Dennis Hope, Van Hughes as David Felton, Jana Djenne Jackson as Polexia, Katie Ladner as Sapphire, Emily Schultheis as Anita Miller, Daniel Sovich as Darryl, Libby Winters as Leslie, and Matthew C. Yee as Ben Fong-Torres. Danny Lindgren, Erica Mansfield, and Alisa Melendez round out the company as swings.

Almost Famous centers on an aspiring journalist, William, who in 1973 gets tasked with covering an up-and-coming band's time on the road. As he gets swept up into their inner circle and the wildness of the rock world, his desire for acceptance and writer's integrity come head-to-head. The show had its world premiere pre-Broadway tryout at The Old Globe in San Diego with the same cast.

The Almost Famous musical features a book by Oscar and Grammy winner Cameron Crowe, who wrote and directed the Almost Famous movie; Tony, Grammy, Emmy, and Pulitzer-winning composer Tom Kitt provides music and lyrics. Direction is by Jeremy Herrin and choreography is by Sarah O'Gleby.

The creative team also includes scenic designer Derek McLane, costume designer David Zinn, lighting designer Natasha Katz, and sound designer Peter Hylenski.
