Anthony Rapp, a star of the original Broadway cast of Rent, is returning to New York with a new musical this spring. Without You, which Rapp wrote and performs, will make its Off-Broadway premiere at New World Stages from January 14 to April 30.

Without You is based on Rapp's New York Times bestselling memoir of the same name. The story begins when a 22-year-old Rapp was about to audition for Rent, the Jonathan Larson show about bohemian New Yorkers living through the AIDS crisis that would soon pioneer the modern rock musical.

In this intimate show, Rapp shares the highs and lows of being part of Rent: how the musical changed his life, and the grief he and his castmates experienced when Larson died as performances were about to begin.

Without You's official opening night is January 25, exactly 27 years after Rent had its first Off-Broadway performance at New York Theatre Workshop in 1996.

Backed by a five-piece rock band, Rapp will sing songs from Rent, as well as original songs by himself, David Matos, and Joe Pisapia, in Without You.

Steven Maler directs the show, and Daniel A. Weiss provides orchestrations, original compositions, and musical direction.
