'Wicked' to host in-person Broadway lottery
The lottery will be held outside the Gershwin Theatre each performance day.
How wonderful! The in-person Wicked Broadway lottery has returned for the summer, with tickets being made available each performance day outside the Gershwin Theatre.
The lottery, which offers 26 tickets to each show at $30 each, will open two and a half hours before each performance, and people have a half hour to enter. Winners will be announced two hours before the performance. Each person can request up to two tickets, and payments must be made in cash.
Running to acclaim on Broadway since 2003, Wicked is a prequel musical to The Wizard of Oz. The witches Elphaba and Glinda are at the center of the story, and the show follows their close friendship as college roommates before the citizens of Oz dubbed one the Good Witch and the other, the Wicked Witch of the West.
The four-star New York Theatre Guide review of Wicked notes, "More than 8.8 million people have found the heart, nerve and wisdom to pay a visit, resulting in the happy scene of a Broadway house filled with as many teens as adults, and making a tale, born from a 115-year-old children's novel, one of the top five highest grossing shows of all time."
