'Wicked' sets new Broadway casting
New principal cast members will join the show May 24.
Broadway's called them wonderful! New cast members will take over the roles of Elphaba, Fiyero, Nessarose, Doctor Dillamond, and the Wizard in Wicked beginning May 24.
Talia Suskauer will take over the role of Elphaba, alongside Tony Award winner Cleavant Derricks as the Wizard, James D. Gish as Fiyero, Tony Award nominee Clifton Davis as Doctor Dillamond, and Mikayla Renfrow as Nessarose. Suskauer, Derricks, and Davis previously played their roles on the Wicked national tour, and Gish and Renfrow are making their Broadway debuts.
They will take over their roles from Lindsay Pearce (Elphaba), Michael McCormick (The Wizard), Sam Gravitte (Fiyero), Mili Diaz (Nessarose), and Michael X. Martin (Doctor Dillamond), respectively, who will all play their final performances in Wicked on Broadway on May 22.
The Wicked musical is a prequel to The Wizard of Oz, showing the unlikely friendship between the witches Glinda and Elphaba during their time in university. When they unwittingly uncover dark secrets about the Wizard's rule of Oz, their different responses to it lead to one being dubbed the Good Witch and the other, the Wicked Witch, and the course of their friendship is changed. Wicked has been playing Broadway's Gershwin Theatre since 2003.
