The new musical Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York) will open on Broadway this fall at the Longacre Theatre, with performances beginning on November 1. Opening night is November 20.

Inspired by classic rom-coms, Two Strangers follows Dougal, a cheerful Brit who’s arrived in New York for the second wedding of the dad he’s never known. Robin, the sister of the bride who must pick him up at the airport, is late for work — but Dougal has big ideas of going on an NYC adventure together.

A four-star review on London Theatre reads, "Two Strangers is both a send-up of cheesy romcoms and a bit of a cheesy romcom itself – very much having its cake and eating it too [...] It’s that rare show in which you really take the characters to heart, and this contrasting pair are beautifully balanced on their parallel journeys to self-acceptance."

Following a 2019 presentation under a different title, the two-person musical by Jim Barne and Kit Buchan premiered in 2023 at the Kiln Theatre in London. Directed and choreographed by Tim Jackson, the production transferred to the Criterion Theatre in the city’s West End in 2024 and made its stateside debut at the American Repertory Theatre in Cambridge, Massachusetts, earlier this year.

The American cast of Two Strangers includes Sam Tutty, who originated the role of Dougal in London, and Christiani Pitts as Robin, taking over the role from original London cast member Dujonna Gift. Both Tutty and Pitts will reprise their roles on Broadway, and Vincent Michael and Phoenix Best are understudies.

Alongside Jackson, the creative team also includes scenic and costume designer Soutra Gilmour, lighting designer Jack Knowles, sound designer Tony Gayle, orchestrator Lux Pyramid, and music supervisor Nick Finlow. Casting is by C12 Casting / Stephen Kopel.
