The Little Dog Laughed: Original Ellen, Zoe Lister-Jones, returns for final 2 weeks

Zoe Lister-Jones will make her Broadway debut when she returns to the role of Ellen, which she created in the original off-Broadway production of The Little Dog Laughed, for the comedys final two weeks of its Broadway run.

Ms. Lister-Jones will begin performances on 6 Feb 2007. Ari Graynor, who has played the role for the shows Broadway engagement, will be away from the production for a previously scheduled commitment during those two weeks.

The acclaimed Broadway comedy, written by Douglas Carter Beane and directed by Scott Ellis, is currently the only new American play to have opened on Broadway this season.

Zoe Lister-Jones created the role of Ellen in the original off-Broadway production of The Little Dog Laughed at Second Stage Theater. She has also been seen off-Broadway in her one-woman show, Codependence is a Four-Letter Word at P.S.122. Television credits include The Class, Law & Order, Kidnapped, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, and Law & Order: Trial by Jury. Film credits include Goyband, The Marconi Brothers, Day Zero, Turn the River, and Arranged.

The Little Dog Laughed also stars Tom Everett Scott, Julie White, and Johnny Galecki.

The show is to close early on 18 Feb 2007, it had been booking to 1 Jul 2007. When the show closes it will have played 22 previews and 112 performances.

The Little Dog Laughed opened at the Cort Theatre on 13 Nov 2006, following previews from the 26 Oct 2006.

The production opened to excellent notices. The New York Times said of Julie White's performance that "it is the perfect wattage for filling a Broadway house with incandescent light."; The New York Daily News exclaimed "Shout hallelujah for Douglas Carter Beane's satiric fable." and the New York Post wrote "A simple, fun evening, full of gay wit and wisdom." The New York Theatre guide wrote of Julie White's turn "Long may she reign as the Killer Queen of Agents, all the way to the Tonys." To read more of what the critics said click here.

Despite the excellent notices the show has struggled at the box office, with most weeks seeing the comedy playing to only 40 - 50% house capacity.

The Little Dog Laughed: A screen idol hiding in the closet, an ambitious male prostitute and his nave girlfriend, and a brash, driven Hollywood agent who can spin anyone and anything. Maybe. Now, darling, do not repeat a word of this, but what I heard is that...

The Little Dog Laughed has set design by Allen Moyer, with costumes by Jeff Mahshie and lighting by Donald Holder.

The comedy originally opened off-Broadway at Second Stage Theatre. The show enjoyed a four-week, sold-out extension, closing on 26 Feb 2006 to make way for Second Stages subsequent production.

The Little Dog Laughed is produced on Broadway by Roy Gabay and Susan Dietz in association with Second Stage Theatre.
