Producers of the Olivier Award-winning 'Best New Play' The Inheritance have now announced a Broadway closing date, with the production playing its final performances at the Barrymore Theatre on March 15, 2020. Upon closing, the two-part drama will have played a total of 46 previews and 138 regular performances.

Producers Tom Kirdahy, Sonia Friedman, and Hunter Arnold issued the following joint statement: "From its first preview at the Young Vic in 2018 through the West End and Broadway runs, audiences have been profoundly moved by Matthew Lopez' beautiful play and Stephen Daldry's stunning production. We are all extremely proud of this production and the 32 actors who bring this ambitious story to life eight times a week and honor the legacy of those we've lost to the AIDS epidemic. We thank all of the actors, crew, co-producers, audience members, and community partners who have made this run such a milestone for everyone involved."

The Inheritance - Part 1 began performances at the Barrymore Theatre on September 27, 2019 (with Part 2 beginning on October 11), with both parts officially opening on November 17, 2019. Read our 5-star review by Mark Shenton here.

Synopsis: "In contemporary Manhattan, Eric and Toby are 30-somethings who seem to be very much in love and thriving. But on the cusp of their engagement, they meet an older man haunted by the past, and a younger man hungry for a future. Chance meetings lead to surprising choices as the lives of three generations interlink and collide—with explosive results. Brilliantly re-envisioning E.M. Forster's masterpiece Howards End to 21st-century New York, The Inheritance asks how much we owe those who lived and loved before us, questions the role we must play for future generations, and dares us to fearlessly hold on to the wild ride called life."

The Broadway cast includes Jordan Barbour (as Young Man 6 / Tristan), Jonathan Burke (as Young Man 5 / Agent), Andrew Burnap (as Young Man 10 / Toby Darling), Darryl Gene Daughtry Jr. (as Young Man 2 / Jason #1), Dylan Frederick (as Young Man 4 / Young Walter), Tony Goldwyn (as Henry Wilcox), Kyle Harris (as Young Man 7 / Jasper), Paul Hilton (as Morgan / Walter), Samuel H. Levine (as Young Man 1 / Adam / Leo), Carson McCalley (as Young Man 3 / Young Henry), two-time Tony Award nominee Lois Smith (as Margaret), Olivier Award winner Kyle Soller (as Young Man 9 / Eric Glass), and Arturo Luis Soria (as Young Man 8 / Jason #2).

Written by Matthew Lopez, The Inheritance is directed by two-time Tony Award winner Stephen Daldry, who also won the Olivier for 'Best Director' for his efforts in London. The creative team also features scenic & costume design by Bob Crowley, lighting design by Jon Clark, sound design by Paul Arditti & Christopher Reid, and music by Paul Englishby.

The world premiere of The Inheritance was staged at London's Young Vic, running from March 2 through May 19, 2018. Following huge critical acclaim, the production would transfer to the West End's Noël Coward Theatre, where it enjoyed a limited engagement from September 21, 2018 through January 19, 2019, and picked up four 2019 Olivier Awards, including 'Best New Play.'

The Inheritance is produced on Broadway by Tom Kirdahy, Sonia Friedman Productions and Hunter Arnold.
