The storm has arrived! Manhattan Theatre Club's American premiere of Tony Award nominee Florian Zeller's The Height of the Storm, translated by Academy & Tony Award winner Christopher Hampton and directed by Tony Award nominee Jonathan Kent, begins previews at Broadway's Samuel J. Friedman Theatre tonight. The limited engagement will celebrate its official opening on September 24 and close on November 17, 2019.

Synopsis: "For 50 years the lives of André and Madeleine have been filled with the everyday pleasures and unfathomable mysteries of an enduring marriage, until suddenly their life together begins to unravel, and this loving relationship is faced with the inevitability of change."

The cast is led by two-time Olivier and Tony Award winner Jonathan Pryce and three-time Olivier Award winner and four-time Tony Award nominee Dame Eileen Atkins, reprising their respective roles as André and Madeleine from the widely acclaimed West End run (which played a limited engagement at the Wyndham's Theatre in London from October to December 2018), alongside Lucy Cohu (as The Woman), Amanda Drew (as Anne), James Hillier (as The Man), and Lisa O'Hare (as Elise). Ms. Cohu, Ms. Drew and Mr. Hillier also appeared in the West End production.

The creative team behind The Height of the Storm features original music by Gary Yershon, scenic & costume design by Anthony Ward, lighting design by Hugh Vanstone, and sound design by Paul Groothuis.

The Height of the Storm marks Florian Zeller's second Broadway production, following his Broadway debut (also courtesy of MTC) with The Father, which played the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre in the spring of 2016, earning a Tony Award nomination for "Best Play" and featuring a Tony Award-winning performance by Frank Langella. He has also been represented off-Broadway with the US premiere of The Mother, starring Isabelle Huppert, which played Atlantic Theater Company's Linda Gross Theater from February 20 through April 7, 2019.

The Height of the Storm is produced on Broadway by Manhattan Theatre Club alongside Simon Friend, Mark Goucher, Howard Panter and Scott Landis.

Jonathan Pryce (CBE) was last seen on the Broadway stage in 2006, assuming the role of Lawrence Jameson in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. He won Tony Awards for his iconic performance as The Engineer in Miss Saigon (in 1991) and for his Broadway debut as Gethin Price in Comedians (in 1977) and also starred in the 1984 Broadway premiere of Accidental Death of an Anarchist, earning a Drama Desk Award nomination.

Dame Eileen Atkins has previously appeared on the Broadway stage seven times, earning her Tony nominations for The Retreat From Moscow in 2004, for Indiscretions in 1995, for Vivat! Vivat Regina! in 1972, and for her Broadway debut in The Killing of Sister George in 1967. She was last seen on the Great White Way in 2006, assuming the role of Sister Aloysius in Doubt.
