Playwrights Horizons has announced the cast and creative team for its winter 2026 production of The Dinosaurs, a world-premiere play that marks the Off-Broadway debut of writer Jacob Perkins. Performances run from February 4 to March 1, and opening night is February 16.

The cast of The Dinosaurs off Broadway includes Kathleen Chalfant, Elizabeth Marvel, April Matthis, Keilly McQuail, Mallory Portnoy, and Maria Elena Ramirez.

The show will also feature direction by Les Waters, set design by dots, costume design by Oana Botez, lighting design by Yuki Link, and sound design by Palmer Hefferan.

The Dinosaurs is set among a women's addiction recovery group that meets at the same time and same place — possibly forever, with the group remaining a constant as the world constantly shifts around the women.

“Something really extraordinary happens in a meeting where you come in as yourself and then you become the organism of the meeting,” Perkins said in a statement. “And at some point the meeting is over and you disperse and become an individual again, but you still carry with you the meaning that was made collectively.

"For me that’s a metaphor for theatre, it’s a metaphor for life. And at some point we all disappear, and the people left behind are going to be the ones holding the meaning of who we were. I thought a meeting, where you’re becoming part of a lineage of people who’ve been coming to this room long before and after you, was a good way to lean into the juicy confusion of: where do you end and I begin?”
