The 2014 Village Voice Obie Award Winners

The 2014 Village Voice Obie Awards were announced on 19 May at a ceremony at Webster Hall. The awards recognise achievement in off-Broadway and off-off-Broadway theatres and are made up of informal categories that change each year to reflect the past season.

This year the awards were hosted by Hamish Linklater and Tamara Tunie, and featured presenters such as Lena Hall, LaTanya Richardson Jackson, Andy Karl and Kelli O'Hara.

Fun Home was the big winner of the evening, taking home an award for Musical Theater, honouring booking writer and lyricist Lisa Kron, alongside composer Jeanine Tesori and director Sam Gold. Star of the production 10-year-old Sydney Lucas became the youngest recipient of an Obie, performing the song "Ring of Keys" from the production at the ceremony.

Appropriate and An Octoroon writer Branden Jacobs-Jenkins received the Best New American Play award, and Estelle Parsons took home a lifetime achievement award.
