Stephen Schwartz's 'The Queen of Versailles' reveals Broadway plans
Kristin Chenoweth is starring as beauty queen, socialite and TV personality Jacqueline “Jackie” Siegel in the musical's run at Boston's Emerson Colonial Theatre.
The Queen of Versailles will head to Broadway in the 2025-26 season. The new musical is currently running at Boston's Emerson Colonial Theatre, with Broadway legend Kristin Chenoweth starring in the lead role.
The Queen of Versailles, which has music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, book by Lindsey Ferrentino, and direction by Michael Arden, will run through August 25 at the Emerson Colonial Theatre before making its way to Broadway.
Alongside Chenoweth (Wicked), who stars as beauty queen, socialite and TV personality Jacqueline “Jackie” Siegel, the Boston cast includes Academy Award winner F. Murray Abraham (The White Lotus) as David Siegel, Melody Butiu (Here Lies Love) as Sofia, Stephen DeRosa (Boardwalk Empire) as John, Greg Hildreth (Company) as Gary, Tatum Grace Hopkins as Jonquil, Tony Award nominee Isabel Keating (The Boy from Oz) as Debbie, and Nina White (Kimberly Akimbo) as Victoria Siegel.
The company also includes Anna Bakun, Stacie Bono, Yeman Brown, Amanda Jane Cooper, David Aron Damane, Drew Elhamalawy, Sara Esty, KJ Hippensteel, Diana Huey, Cassondra James, Andrew Kober, Jesse Kovarsky, Pablo David Laucerica, Travis Murad Leland, Michael Mulheren, Michael McCorry Rose, and Grace Slear.
The Queen of Versailles musical is based on Lauren Greenfield’s award-winning 2012 documentary of the same name about Siegel and her husband, David Siegel. The pair’s private residence, called Versailles, was one of the largest single-family homes in America, but their lavish lifestyle hangs in danger as the Great Recession of 2008 approaches.
