'soft' at MCC Theater sets Off-Broadway cast

Performances begin May 12.

The world premiere of Donja R. Love's soft at MCC Theater has announced its cast. The Off-Broadway production begins performances May 12 ahead of a June 6 opening night, and will run through June 19.

Biko Eisen-Martin leads the cast as Mr. Isaiah, alongside Leon Addison Brown as Mr. Cartwright, Dharon Jones as Antoine, Essence Lotus as Dee, Travis Raeburn as Bashir, Shakur Tolliver as Kevin, Dario Vazquez as Jamal, and Ed Ventura as Eddie. 

On the creative side, soft will feature scenic design by Adam Rigg, costume design by Qween Jean, lighting design by Cha See, sound design by Germán Martínez, original music by Mauricio Escamilla, and fight direction by UnkleDave's Fight-House.

Directed by Obie Award winner Whitney White, soft is set in a classroom of a correctional boarding school, where Mr. Isaiah teaches a group of boys and tries to keep their imaginations alive. But when one boy in the class dies by suicide, he struggles to show the remaining students how to preserve their softness in an unforgiving world that discourages it.
