The bluegrass musical by Adam Guettel and Tina Landau, which dramatizes a true story, comes to Broadway more than 30 years after its acclaimed world premiere.
Here's your first look at Floyd Collins on Broadway! Tony Award nominee Jeremy Jordan and indie pop musician Lizzy McAlpine, in her Broadway debut, star in this buzzy musical at the Vivian Beaumont Theater.
Floyd Collins is named for a 1920s cave explorer, played by Jordan, who gets trapped underground, setting off America's first media circus as the nation wonders whether he'll escape. Since its Philadelphia world premiere in 1994 and Off-Broadway premiere in 1996, the show and its folk/bluegrass music have become cult favorites among theatre fans. Now, Floyd Collins — featuring songs by Adam Guettel and a book and direction by Tina Landau — makes its long-awaited Broadway premiere.
The principal cast also features McAlpine as Nellie Collins, Jason Gotay as Homer Collins, Sean Allan Krill as H.T. Carmichael, Marc Kudisch as Lee Collins, Wade McCollum as Bee Doyle, Jessica Molaskey as Miss Jane, Taylor Trensch as Skeets Miller, Cole Vaughan as Jewell Estes, and Clyde Voce as Ed Bishop.
