QuaranTune #7: "Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin'" from Oklahoma!
A show tune a day keeps the quarantine blues at bay...
A very Good Morning to all our readers across the globe! And oh, what a beautiful mornin' it is because today's the day you can stream the entire 1998 National Theatre production of Rodgers & Hammerstein's Oklahoma! on BroadwayHD... for free! And oh, by the way, the production just happens to feature Tony Award winner Hugh Jackman in his London stage debut as Curly McLain!
The Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization has partnered with BroadwayHD to make this free presentation possible, which can be streamed here from 8pm (ET) tonight and will remain available through Sunday, March 29. You can also find more information about the premier streaming service for live theater in our New York Theatre Guide to... BroadwayHD!
To celebrate the release, we've decided to crown the 1943 tuner's opening number, "Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin'," our #QuaranTune of the day! The musical standard features perhaps the most optimistic lyrics Oscar Hammerstein II has ever written and we feel it may just spread a little more optimism as we head into the weekend.
Mr. Jackman, who earned an Olivier Award nomination for 'Best Actor in a Musical' for his performance as Curly in 1998, is currently still scheduled to return to Broadway this fall to star as Professor Harold Hill in a much-anticipated revival of The Music Man at the Winter Garden Theatre from September 9, 2020. So, that's something else to look forward to and keep us going!
Oh, what a beautiful mornin', Oh, what a beautiful day, I've got a beautiful feelin', Everything's goin' my way. (Curly McLain, Oklahoma!)
