Promises, Promises plays final performance
The Broadway revival of Promises, Promises plays its final performance at the Broadway Theatre on 2 Jan 2010, after playing 30 previews and 291 regular performances.
This new production of Promises, Promises, directed and choreographed by Tony and Emmy Award winner Rob Ashford with Neil Simon's book and Burt Bacharach and Hal David's score, opened at the Broadway Theatre on 25 Apr 2010, following previews from 27 Mar 2010.
The show opened to mixed reviews: Pale Production (newyorktheatreguide.com); Occasionally memorable (NY Post); More than delivers (NY Daily News); At times tiresome (USA Today); Charmless (The Record); Winning evening (Hollywood Reporter).
Promises, Promises tells the story of the Consolidated Life Insurance Company and Chuck Baxter (Sean Hayes), one of its charming young employees. In an effort to advance at the company, Chuck lends executives his apartment for their extramarital romantic trysts. But things become slightly complicated when Fran Kubelik (Kristin Chenoweth), the object of Chuck's affection, becomes the mistress of one of his executives.
As well as it's co-stars Chenoweth and Hayes, Promises, Promises also features "Sean Hayes (Chuck Baxter), Kristin Chenoweth (Fran Kubelik), Tony Goldwyn (J.D. Sheldrake), Molly Shannon (Marge MacDougall), Brooks Ashmanskas (Mr. Dobitch), Dick Latessa (Dr. Dreyfuss), Peter Benson (Mr. Kirkeby), Sean Martin Hingston (Mr. Eichelberger) and Ken Land (Jesse Vanderhof).
The musical features scenic design by Scott Pask, costume design by Bruce Pask, lighting design by Donald Holder and sound design by Brian Ronan.
Promises, Promises was nominated for four Tony Awards: Best Actor (Sean Hayes), Best Choreography (Rob Ashford), Best Orchastrations (Jonathan Tunic, with Katuie Finneran winning the Tony for Best Featured Actress for her role as ''Marge MacDougall.'
