Mrs. Doubtfire, starring Rob McClure, begins performances on Broadway

​The Broadway premiere of Mrs. Doubtfire is set for an official opening at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre on April 5, 2020.

Hello, poppets!!! The Broadway premiere of Mrs. Doubtfire, directed by four-time Tony Award winner Jerry Zaks, begins preview performances at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre tonight. An official opening is scheduled for April 5, 2020.

Based on the much loved Golden Globe-winning 1993 film of the same name, Mrs. Doubtfire features a book by John O'Farrell and Karey Kirkpatrick and a score by Karey and Wayne Kirkpatrick. The trio all earned Tony Award nominations in 2015 for their Broadway debuts as the writing team behind Something Rotten!

Synopsis: "When out-of-work actor Daniel Hillard loses custody of his kids in a divorce, he disguises himself as Scottish nanny Euphegenia Doubtfire in a desperate attempt to stay in their lives. As he gets lost in his new persona and grows closer to his kids, Mrs. Doubtfire teaches Daniel more than he bargained for about how to be a father."

As previously announced, the cast of Mrs. Doubtfire is led by Tony Award nominee Rob McClure in the central dual role of Daniel Hillard/Euphegenia Doubtfire, alongside Jenn Gambatese (as Miranda Hillard), two-time Tony Award nominee Brad Oscar (as Frank Hillard), Analise Scarpaci (as Lydia Hillard), Jake Ryan Flynn (as Christopher Hillard), Avery Sell (as Natalie Hillard), J. Harrison Ghee (as Andre), Mark Evans (as Stuart Dunmeyer), Charity Angél Dawson (as Wanda Sellner), and Peter Bartlett (as Mr. Jolly).

The creative team behind Mrs. Doubtfire features choreography by Lorin Latarro, music supervision by Ethan Popp, scenic design by David Korins, costume design by Catherine Zuber, lighting design by Philip Rosenberg, sound design by Brian Ronan, and hair & wig design by David Brian Brown.

The movie "Mrs. Doubtfire" is based on the 1987 novel Alias Madame Doubtfire by Anne Fine and was released in November 1993, becoming the highest-grossing comedy of that year with global sales of $441,286,195 at the worldwide box office. The film went on to win the Golden Globe in January 1994 in the category of 'Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy,' whilst its star, the late Robin Williams, took home the Golden Globe for 'Best Actor in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy.' The cast also included Sally Field, Pierce Brosnan, and Harvey Fierstein.

The pre-Broadway world premiere engagement played Seattle's 5th Avenue Theatre from November 26 through December 29, 2019, officially opening on December 13.

Mrs. Doubtfire is produced on Broadway by Kevin McCollum and presented by special arrangement with Buena Vista Theatrical.
