'Mary Gets Hers' sets full Off-Broadway cast
The new play by Emma Horwitz will play a monthlong engagement at MCC Theater's Robert W. Wilson Theater Space beginning on September 11.
Playwrights Realm has set the complete cast for its production of Mary Gets Hers, a new Off-Broadway play by Emma Horwitz. Performances run at the Robert W. Wilson MCC Theater Space from September 11 to October 7, with opening night on September 22.
The complete cast includes Octavia Chavez-Richmond as Ephraim, Kai Heath as The Soldier, Susannah Perkins as Abraham, Claire Siebers as Master of the Inn and others, and Haley Wong as Mary. Wong reprises the role she originated in the play’s developmental workshops at Brown University.
The creative team, led by director Josiah Davis, includes set designer You-Shin Chen, costume designer Camilla Dely, lighting designer Cha See, and sound designer Kathy Ruvuna.
Mary Gets Hers is an adaptation of Abraham, or the Rise and Repentance of Mary, written by Hrosvitha of Gandersheim in the 10th century. Horwitz's adaptation is set in a "funhouse, slapstick version of 10th-century Germany," the production notes, following the orphaned Mary as she grows up to reject her male caregivers' monastic life and embark on a much different life journey.
Playwrights Realm, which presents Mary Gets Hers, is a company in residence at MCC Theater.
