Comedian Kate Berlant will premiere her one-woman comedy show, Kate, in New York this fall. Kate will play the Connelly Theater for a limited engagement from August 20 to October 8. Opening night is September 7.

In the show, she retraces the events that have led her to her current place in life and plays multiple characters as she does so. All these stories lead her to reveal a truth she has kept secret until now. Additional details have not been revealed, but a statement from Berlant reads, "All my previous work has been a pale shadow, a humiliation, an impotent suggestion always gesturing toward, yet never quite arriving ... until now.

"I can't wait to welcome you into my home, which is the theatre. Although I haven't been home in a long time, it feels good to be back and I'm so grateful they kept the lights on for me. Although it is forbidden to take your shoes off in my home, I hope you will still allow yourself to shed a layer—to become vulnerable and receptive to the possibility of transformation."

Kate marks Berlant's return to New York for the first time in more than 10 years. In the meantime, she has appeared in movies like Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and Sorry to Bother You, and in TV shows like Search Party, Transparent, and I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson. Berlant also has an established record of stage performances, having done comedy at festivals like Edinburgh Fringe, Montreal Just For Laughs, and New York Comedy.

Directing Kate is Bo Burnham, who won three Emmy Awards in 2021 for his streaming comedy special Inside. His comedy shows also include Words, Words, Words; what.; and Make Happy. His past directorial work includes the coming-of-age film Eighth Grade (which he also wrote) and comedy specials for Chris Rock and Jerrod Carmichael.
