UPDATE: Prima Facie will play the Golden Theatre beginning April 11, ahead of an April 23 opening night. The show will play a 10-week limited run.

Emmy and BAFTA Award winner Jodie Comer is set to make her Broadway debut this spring. After starring in Suzie Miller's one-woman show Prima Facie in London, she is transferring with the show to Broadway in spring 2023 at a theatre to be announced.

Comer is known for her television roles as Villainelle on Killing Eve — which won her 2019 Leading Actress awards at the BAFTAs and Emmys — as well as Help (a TV movie that earned her another BAFTA win), Thirteen (earning her first BAFTA nomination), and The White Princess. She's also starred in movies like Free Guy and The Last Duel.

Directing Comer in Prima Facie is Justin Martin, and the creative team also includes composer Rebecca Lucy Taylor (also known as Self Esteem), set and costume designer Miriam Buether, lighting designer is Natasha Chivers, sound designers Ben and Max Ringham, and video creator William Williams for Treatment Studio.

Prima Facie has sold out its run in London, which began April 27 and runs to June 18. The sole character is Tessa, a woman from working-class origins who has worked her way up to become a highly successful lawyer. But when she becomes the victim of an assault, she must reckon with her morals and values, which clash with the burden of proof and patriarchal power that exist in the world of law, as she knows her case wouldn't be easy to win.

A four-star review of Prima Facie on London Theatre reads, "In an astonishing tour-de-force performance, Comer commits, body and soul, to laying bare the human cost [of a broken legal system]... She uses her shape-shifting talents to great effect, sketching in numerous other characters - from her posh colleagues to her abrasive mum and combative brother. She also gives Tessa a vivid emotional journey."

Playwright Miller is a former human rights and children's rights lawyer, and the title of her play is a Latin phrase that means "at first sight." Prima Facie made its world premiere in Australia and won the 2020 Australian Writers' Guild Award for Drama, the 2020 David Williamson Award for Outstanding Theatre Writing, and the 2020 Major Australian Writers' Guild Award, which encompasses theatre, film, and TV.

Exact performance dates for Prima Facie on Broadway have yet to be announced.
