Oscar nominee and BAFTA winner Jesse Eisenberg (The Social Network, Fleishman Is In Trouble) will read his play The Ziegfeld Files off Broadway this fall at Studio Seaview for seven performances only.
The Ziegfeld Files is built from therapy recordings of a father struggling to connect with his baby. As he talks about things like copying machines, early man, breastfeeding classes, failed jokes, sour oranges, and Haitian revolutionary Toussaint Louverture, he tenderly reveals the difficulty of trying to say how you feel.
“I’m equal parts thrilled and terrified of performing my play, The Ziegfeld Files. I am so grateful to Seaview for producing it and giving me somewhere to go on Mondays!,” said Eisenberg in a statement. “I am also very happy that part of the proceeds will be going to organizations providing relief in Haiti — which makes sense when you see the show!"
Under the direction of Pulitzer Prize finalist Shayok Misha Chowdhury, Eisenberg will perform with a script.
Performances will take place at 7 p.m. on select Mondays: October 6, 20, and 27; November 3, 17, and 24; and December 1. The Ziegfeld Files runs concurrently with Studio Seaview's production of Prince Faggot, which performs Tuesday through Sunday.
The show will be performed on the set for Prince Faggot designed by David Zinn, and Ziegfeld's creative team includes lighting designer Isabella Byrd and sound designer Lee Kinney.
Alongside his onscreen career, Eisenberg has written four plays, including The Spoils, which ran in London's West End; The Revisionist, in which he starred alongside Vanessa Redgrave; Asuncion; and Happy Talk, starring Susan Sarandon and Marin Ireland off Broadway in 2019.
