Based on the manga by Moyoco Anno of the same name, Memoirs of Amorous Gentlemen follows a young writer in 20th-century Paris. Through this she becomes the observer, though she cannot outrun her own self-destructive obsession with her childhood love.

The stage show has music and lyrics by Tony and Grammy Award winner Duncan Sheik, a book by Leah Nanako Winkler, and is the first manga graphic novel to be turned into an American musical. The production will also feature direction and choreography by Tony, Olivier, and Emmy Award winner Rob Ashford.

The creative team also includes set designer Scott Pask, costume designer Catherine Zuber, lighting designer Brian Tovar, sound designer Cody Spencer, and hair and wig designer Tom Watson. Music supervision and vocal and incidental music arrangements are by Or Matias.
