[Chloë Grace Moretz](https://www.newyorktheatreguide.com/stars-on-stage/chloe-grace-moretz) will lead the cast of the world premiere of [*Caroline*](https://www.newyorktheatreguide.com/show/44427-caroline) off Broadway, a new play running at [MCC Theater](https://www.newyorktheatreguide.com/venues/mcc-theater) from September 12 to October 19. Opening night is September 30.

The star of *The Miseducation of Cameron Post*, *Kick-Ass*, and *The Peripheral* will star as Maddie opposite [Amy Landecker](https://www.newyorktheatreguide.com/stars-on-stage/amy-landecker) (*Bug, Transparent*) as Rhea and River Lipe-Smith as Caroline.

Moretz and Landecker return to the NYC stage for the first time in over a decade, and Lipe-Smith makes her Off-Broadway debut.

*Caroline* also features scenic design by Lee Jellinek; costume design by David
Hyman; sound design by Christopher Darbassie; voice, text, and dialect coaching by Gigi Buffington; makeup design by Suki Tsujimoto, and properties supervision by Samantha Shoffner.

Written by Preston Max Allen and directed by Tony Award winner David Cromer, *Caroline* three generations of mothers and daughters: Maddie, her estranged mother Rhea, and her daughter Caroline. When Maddie is forced to seek Rhea's help, she finds herself unable to shield her daughter from the circumstances that broke their family apart.

*Caroline* is a three-hander, featuring a trio of actresses spanning generations to tell a unique and contemporary story about how women navigate family, identity, and love despite the shared histories that have fractured relationships, but perhaps not forever. A master of finding the sublime in the small, David Cromer is known for his intimate stagings, as with his groundbreaking production of *Our Town* that launched his career. Since then, he has been an acclaimed stager of new works, including *The Sound Inside* and *The Treasurer*, and also musicals that have gone on to win major acclaim on Broadway, including *The Band's Visit* and *Dead Outlaw*.

Now, Cromer directs a play from a writer making a splashy off Broadway debut: Preston Max Allen. With immense compassion and a story for now that demands to be seen, Allen's play is heartfelt and thorny, never afraid to show that to love a mother is sometimes effortless, and sometimes acutely demanding.

Before becoming a screen star, however, she began her career acting in Chicago theatre and appeared in the play *Blue Surge* at Chicago's Goodman Theatre NYC's [Public Theater](https://www.newyorktheatreguide.com/venues/public-theater) off Broadway.

Amy Landecker - NY

The Robert W. Wilson MCC Theater Space is an iconic fine arts venue located at 511 W 52nd St, New York. Famed for its commitment to thought-provoking, innovative, and deeply collaborative new work, it is the perfect venue for theater-goers who are consistently keen on exposure to an array of genres and styles. The space features two stages: the 100-seat Newman Mills Theater and the 243-seat Susan & Ronald Frankel Theater, providing opportunities for intimate performances as well as larger-scale productions.

**How to Get to The Venue**

To reach the Robert W. Wilson MCC Theater Space, it's just a short walk west from the 50th Street Subway Station, which is served by the C and E lines. Alternatively, it's a few minutes north from the 49th Street Station, served by the N, R, and W lines. Those preferring to drive will find a handful of paid parking garages in the area, such as the MPG Parking and Imperial Parking Systems. Do check parking rates ahead of your visit.
