See a gorgeous, intelligent new play by Preston Max Allen and directed by Tony Award winner David Cromer. Caroline plays at MCC's Susan & Ronald Frankel Theater this fall for a limited run only. A story of three generations of women, Caroline is a tender, complex, and utterly beautiful new play written for here and now.
In Caroline off Broadway, Maddie is in need of help she'd rather not seek — from her long-estranger mother. After reuniting, she learns that she cannot shield her young daughter Caroline from the truth and inescapable circumstances that fractured their family. A new play, Caroline speaks to three generations of women — a daughter, mother, and grandmother — to unravel and intimate and shining story about how we hope for redemption despite the hardships that drove a family apart.
A glowing story about generations of mothers and daughters, Caroline is the kind of play that David Cromer has often directed in his successful career. Known for his poetic works, Cromer finds intriguing ways to bring out the sublime in the everyday, as he has in hit productions from Our Town and The Counter to the hit musicals The Band's Visit and Dead Outlaw. Small, specific, and hauntingly beautiful, Caroline also marks the astonishing off-Broadway debut of a vital new talent, Preston Max Allen.
MCC Theater is known for its adventurous programming and sparkling new plays. One of New York’s leading nonprofit Off-Broadway companies, MCC’s celebrated productions include Robert O’Hara’s Shit.
