Norbert Leo Butz stars in Are You Now or Have You Ever Been off Broadway at New York City Center from July 14 to August 2, 2026. Next, he stars as Hermes in in Hadestown on Broadway at the Walter Kerr Theatre from September 1, 2026.

Butz is best known for originating the role of Fiyero in Wicked on Broadway and winning Tony and Drama Desk Awards for his performances as Freddy Benson in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and Agent Carl Hanratty in Catch Me If You Can. He has appeared in a dozen Broadway shows since making his debut as Roger Davis in Rent in 1997.

Butz has an equally prolific Off-Broadway resume, most notably including originating the role of Jamie Wellerstein in Jason Robert Brown's The Last Five Years.

On screen, he has held lead roles in the TV series Bloodline, Mercy Street, Debris, and Justified: City Primeval, and played guest roles in the miniseries Fosse/Verdon (as Paddy Chayefksy) and American Sports Story (Bill Belichick).
