Winningham is an eight-time Emmy Award nominee, winning Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Miniseries or Movie twice for Amber Waves and George Wallace. She was also nominated for a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for Georgia and earned two Tony nominations for Casa Valentina and Girl From the North Country. Her most recent Broadway appearance was in fall 2024's Cult of Love.
She has also appeared in more than 60 films and TV shows, with recurring roles on series like Dopesick, The Outsider, The Affair, and Grey's Anatomy.
