Faydra plays for a limited run at Manhattan Theatre Club and follows Aphrodite's arrow, which strikes Faydra. She falls in love with the first person she sees, which happens to be her soon-to-be stepson. Faydra is an epic, rapturous, and fearless world premiere, commissioned by MTC.

“There’s nothing like watching a homegrown Manhattan Theatre Club commission become a magnet for talent,” MTC Artistic Director Nicki Hunter told The Hollywood Reporter. “Sarah Ruhl’s bold, funny, and devastating reimagining of this classic tale will draw the immensely gifted Julianne Moore back to the stage, and mark Les Waters’ return to MTC after three decades."

Ruhl is a Pulitzer Prize finalist and MacArthur "Genius" Grant winner known for her poetic yet grounded works such as The Clean House and In the Next Room (or, the vibrator play). Waters has directed many of her works, offering highly theatrical and wise stagings that befit Ruhl's heightened dialogue.

Moore previously worked with Waters when she got her start in theatre; now, decades later, she returns to the stage with Faydra off Broadway. Moore is known for her many roles portraying ordinary woman thrust into extraordinary circumstances, and she will continue that legacy with this meaty new role.
