About The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Following a highly acclaimed production in London’s West End, THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON makes its North American premiere at The Public this fall. Olivier Award-winning writing team Jethro Compton and Darren Clark reimagine F. Scott Fitzgerald’s iconic story of an old man who is not at the end of his life, but at the beginning. Set in a Cornish fishing village on the coast of Great Britain, and brought to life by a company of 15 actor-musicians, this is the magical tale of a love that defies all odds.

It's a show with a lot of heart and fun music. It's narrated differently from your typical Broadway show, but that just brings a grounded tone to the whole show. Everyone performed phenomenally.
This was a beautiful and heartwarming reimagining of the original F. Scott Fitzgerald short story set along the Cornish coast. The actors on stage are also the orchestra, weaving in and out of musical performance, singing, and dancing which was incredible. The acting was charming and the ensemble chemistry was there even this early into the show’s run. This is completely different from the short story and the movie, more of an adaptation of the concept of a man aging in reverse, so if you disliked the movie, I’d still recommend the show!
Enjoyable enough show, good music (sort of a cross between Riverdance and Enya) but overall not a very memorable experience. The story is told mostly through the device of the Greek chorus, either spoken or sung, with the actors miming the action onstage. It's hard to do much character development under these circumstances. The sets are just a few props, mostly boxes, stacked up in various configurations against a single backdrop, with the audience's imagination called on to supply the rest.
