Tony Award-winning director Daniel Sullivan returns to Free Shakespeare in the Park with a spellbinding new production of THE WINTER’S TALE. When the King of Sicilia becomes convinced his pregnant wife has been unfaithful, the royal baby is smuggled to the coast of Bohemia where an old shepherd finds her and renames her Perdita. Sixteen years later, Perdita falls in love with another young shepherd, Doricles, who turns out to be a prince in disguise. Honesty is a fool and true love the only answer in this mysterious, romantic tale of defiance and destiny.

Woke, woke going brokie the public in the park went woke and like Natt Ross it sucks. Get back to non woke Shakespeare; that is what the people want and not this woke go broke crap. Costumeswere nice ,direction was lousy..
PRO - Often deemed problematic, this late Shakespearean dramedy is both fluid & compelling in director Sullivan's skilled handling Furiously acted on a beautiful set An excellent production CON - Even a superior production as this cannot hide the many implausibilities of the text
The Winter's Tale at The Public Theater's Shakespeare in the Park with free tickets for all comers is a gorgeously staged production that showcases Broadway regulars Raul Esparza and Lily Rabe and provides a sweeping spectacle of the Bard's fantasy/problem play. The 3 hr 30 minute run time including intermission, and the Dagwood sandwich, of high drama, then low comedy, returning to the even higher drama of statuary coming to life and reconciliation, might be daunting for the casual theater but is an absolute feast for anyone interested in the delights of classical theater.
