Lombardo’s Broadway credits include High starring Kathleen Turner and Looped which featured Valerie Harper in a Tony-nominated performance. Known for writing vehicles for strong female characters, he now pens Conversations with Mother: a semi-autobiographical play and an ode to his own relationship with his mother…which if not always easy was certainly always hysterical.

Heartwarming and witty, Conversations with Mother traces the relationship between Italian matriarch Maria Collavechio (Aaron) and her gay son (Doyle). Spanning five decades, the play explores both characters as they test their lifelong bond. Showcasing a domineering Italian mamma and an aimless gay son, as Lombardo knows, can lead to some big laughs.

Noah Himmelstein directs this new comedy, which unites two stars of stage and screen. Aaron has appeared in multiple Mike Nichols, Nora Ephron, and Woody Allen films, and she is also known for her role in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel in which she plays a similar role, Joel’s overbearing mother.

Doyle is Broadway royalty and most recently was on the Great White Way winning a Tony and Drama Desk award for playing Jamie in Company. He’s also been seen on Broadway in Bye Bye Birdie, Spring Awakening, War Horse, and more.
