Harrison David Rivers makes his New York debut with the award-winning play the bandaged place. Get the bandaged place tickets on New York Theatre Guide.
the bandaged place is a play that follows Jonah, a man attempting to heal from abuse and trauma. In the aftermath of an assault, a former lover reenters his life and reopens a wound from the past. He discovers that in order to heal and move forward, he has to heal his relationships with his family members and find support in them — namely, his intelligent daughter and his caring but stern grandmother.
Before even getting a full production, the bandaged place won the 2018 Relentless Award for excellent, daring playwriting. New York Stage and Film at Vassar College later premiered the play in its summer 2019 Powerhouse Season. Playwright Harrison David Rivers's other works include This Bitter Earth, Where Storms Are Born, When Last We Flew, and the musicals Five Points, We Shall Someday, and I Put a Spell on You, for which he wrote the books. His work has been produced nationwide. He is also a screenwriter whose credits include One of Us is Lying, The Nevers, Wytches, and The Plot.
Director David Mendizábal's credits include Rivers's This Bitter Earth in Hartford, Connecticut; Notes on Killing Seven Oversight, Management, and Economic Stability Board Members in New York; Sanctuary City in Baltimore, Maryland and Berkeley, California; and many more. They are in the leadership of two NYC theatre companies: as a producing artistic leader of the Obie Award-winning Movement Theatre Company and associate artistic director of The Sol Project.
the bandaged place off Broadway is part of Roundabout Theatre Company's Underground program. The program supports new works by emerging playwrights, giving them full productions in Roundabout's Black Box Theatre. The program also supports long-term development for playwrights, as every playwright gets a commission from Roundabout to write another play after premiering one with the Underground program.
