New York Theatre Workshop's production of Sanctuary City has been extended through October 17, one week later than the original closing date. It began performances at the Lucille Lortel Theatre September 8 and officially opened September 21.

The production also announced that Julian Elijah Martinez will join the Sanctuary City cast for the remainder of the play's run. Starting September 25, he will assume the role of Henry, replacing original cast member Austin Smith.

Martyna Majok's play centers on two immigrant teenagers who develop a deep friendship over several years. As they navigate loneliness and seek safety, they're forced to contend with what they're willing to sacrifice for someone they love. The New York Theatre Guide review of Sanctuary City reads, "Everything works in tandem in New York Theatre Workshop's first play of the season. This play forces its audience to ask themselves the necessary questions about equality and sacrifice, and how far they would go to feel safe."

Sanctuary City tickets are on sale now.
