Daniel Craig and Ruth Negga to star in 'Macbeth' on Broadway this spring

The production will begin performances March 29, 2022.

Something wicked this way comes! A Broadway revival of Shakespeare's classic tragedy Macbeth will open at the Lyceum Theatre in 2022 for a limited 15-week engagement. Performances begin March 29 ahead of an April 25 opening.

Daniel Craig will star as Macbeth in the upcoming production. Craig has had a prolific career on stage and screen, most recently earning a Golden Globe nomination for his performance in the 2019 film Knives Out. He is also known for playing James Bond in five films: Spectre, Quantum of Solace, Casino Royale, Skyfall, and No Time to Die, releasing October 8. On stage, his career includes appearances on both Broadway and the West End, with his most recent Broadway appearance in Betrayal in 2013. His most recent appearance on the New York stage was in Othello off Broadway in 2016. Sam Gold, who directed Craig in that production, will also direct Macbeth.

Additionally, Ruth Negga will make her Broadway debut as Lady Macbeth. She has had an extensive stage career in London, including roles in Shakespeare plays such as Hamlet and Titus Andronicus. She made her New York stage debut in Hamlet at St. Ann's Warehouse, receiving a Drama Desk Award nomination for her performance in the titular role. She has also appeared many times in film and on television, with her credits including Ad Astra, World War Z, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and many more. Her most notable role is as Mildred Loving in the 2016 film Loving, for which she received Academy Award, Golden Globe, and Critics Choice Award nominations. She is also set to star in Netflix's film Passing alongside Tessa Thompson and later play jazz performer and activist Josephine Baker in the drama series Josephine.

Additional casting has yet to be announced. The creative team includes direction by Gold, scenic design by Christine Jones, costume design by Suttirat Larlarb, lighting design by Jane Cox, sound design by Mikaal Sulaiman, original music by Gaelynn Lea, special effects design by Jeremy Chernick, and fight direction by David Leong.
