Daddy Long Legs to close off-Broadway on 6 June 2016
It has been reported that the off-Broadway production of Daddy Long Legs will play its final performance at the Davenport Theatre on 6 June 2016. The musical began previews on 10 September 2015, and officially opened on 28 September. It was originally scheduled to play a limited engagement through 10 January 2016 only, however due to popular demand, it extended with an open-ended run, which was previously booking through to 8 January 2017. The Drama Desk-nominated musical will have played 309 performances off-Broadway upon closing.
Daddy Long Legs features music and lyrics by Tony nominee Paul Gordon, book by Tony Award and Olivier Award winner John Caird, who also directs, and is based on the 1912 novel by Jean Webster.
Synopsis: "Daddy Long Legs tells the extraordinary tale of Jerusha Abbott (McGinnis), the oldest orphan in the John Grier Home. One day, a rich, anonymous benefactor (Nolan) decides to send her to college, but she must write him a letter once a month. Unaware of his identity, she invents a nickname for him: Daddy Long Legs. Through her brilliant and witty letters, Jerusha shares her experiences of college while discovering her own identity and reveling in the wonders of literature, adventure and love. But one key fact eludes her - who is Daddy Long Legs?"
The cast of Daddy Long Legs includes Megan McGinnis (Jerusha Abbott) and her real-life husband Adam Halpin (Jervis).
The creative team features scenic and costume design by Olivier winner and Tony nominee David Farley, lighting design by Paul Toben and sound design by Peter Fitzgerald.
