The Duke on 42nd Street is named after American heiress and philanthropist Doris Duke. The theatre opened in 2000 and is a 199-seat black box theatre.
Located next door to the Roundabout Theatre Company’s American Airlines Theatre between Seventh and Eighth Avenues, the Duke offers companies the opportunity to perform on the famed 42nd Street.
Since 2000, popular organizations including The Playwright’s Realm, Red Bull Theater, Primary Stages, Theatre for a New Audience, and the National Theatre of Great Britain have hosted performances there.
The Duke on 42nd Street is closest to the Times Square - 42nd St. subway stop on the 1, 2, 3, N, Q, R, W, 7, and S lines. The closest bus stop is W 42 St/7 Av on the M42 line.
