Trevor: The Musical to receive New York premiere at Stage 42
The musical will begin performances at Stage 42 in April 2020.
Producers Roy Furman and A.B & W. Productions have announced that Trevor: The Musical will receive its New York premiere at Stage 42. The musical will begin performances Off-Broadway in April 2020, with further details on performance dates to be announced.
Trevor: The Musical is a stage adaptation of Trevor, a 1994 Academy-Award winning short film following a teenager named Trevor whose crush on a schoolmate named Pinky Faraday is found out. The movie inspired The Trevor Project, a crisis intervention and suicide prevention organization focused on saving LGBTQ lives.
Trevor: The Musical received its world premiere at Writers Theater in Chicago on August 9, 2017, in collaboration with A.B. & W. Productions through the Literary Development Initiative. The musical went on to win a Jeff Award for Best New Work, celebrating theatre in the Chicago area.
Speaking about the musical's New York transfer, producers Roy Furman and John Ambrosino, Josie Bray and Mark Woods of A.B. & W. Productions commented: "Trevor the film struck a chord with its powerful narrative and urgent message of optimism. From the exuberant audience response at the Writers Theatre in Glencoe, IL where the musical debuted, we knew we should bring the show to New York."
Synopsis: "Trevor: The Musical is about 13-year-old Trevor, a force of nature with a vivid imagination. As he deals with becoming a teenager, Trevor struggles to navigate his own identity and determine how he fits in a challenging world."
Casting for the 19 roles in Trevor: The Musical, as well as additional details for the musical's New York premiere are to be announced shortly.
Trevor: The Musical features an original book and lyrics by Dan Collins, with music by Julianne Wick Davis. Marc Bruni will direct the production, with choreography by Joshua Prince.
