This chapter is closing. The Notebook will close on Broadway, playing its final performance at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre on December 15. It will have played 352 total performances at the time of closing.

The Notebook began as the 1996 debut novel of Nicholas Sparks, and it went on to become a popular romance movie starring Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams. The musical adaptation premiered in Chicago in 2023 before transferring to Broadway in February 2024.

The story follows Noah and Allie, two lovers from different classes who defy the odds to be together. The Notebook is framed as a memory play, with an elderly Noah reading the story of their love to an Alzheimer’s-stricken Allie in the hopes she’ll remember their life together.

“As with the film, the musical adaptation of The Notebook is like a Hallmark card, its sweeping romance sparkly,” New York Theatre Guide’s review reads.

Emmy Award-nominated screenwriter Bekah Brunstetter (This Is Us) adapted Sparks’s novel for the stage, earning a 2024 Tony Award nomination for her work. Bestselling musician Ingrid Michaelson wrote the songs, and Michael Greif and Schele Williams co-directed.

The main cast includes John Cardoza as Younger Noah, Ryan Vasquez as Middle Noah, 2024 Tony nominee Dorian Harewood as Older Noah, Jordan Tyson as Younger Allie, Joy Woods as Middle Allie, and 2024 Tony nominee Maryann Plunkett as Older Allie.

The show will launch a national tour in September 2025 and also has a cast recording available.
