Snow in Midsummer is a murder mystery play set in a town wracked by a drought. When a wealthy businesswoman moves there to take over a factory, she learns that a curse has been placed on the town by an innocent woman wrongly executed for a crime. Cowhig's work ties together stories of the past and the present, and how old injustices can cause harm for future generations, in her adaptation of the classical Chinese play The Injustice to Dou Yi That Moved Heaven and Earth.
