Tony Award winner Lillias White and Reeve Carney will star in a new Off-Broadway production of the roots musical Texas in Paris at the Pershing Square Signature Center from January 14 to February 28, 2027, with opening night on January 21.

Based on true events, Texas in Paris follows two strangers invited to bring "the music of Texas" to a French audience: Osceola Mays (White), a Black nanny singing a cappella spirituals, and John Burrus (Carney), a white cowboy performing Old West country hymns and songs. Gradually, music allows the pair to have a conversation about race they once thought impossible.

White and Carney reunite after performing together in Hadestown on Broadway between 2022 and 2023. White is also known for her Broadway performances in The Life (Tony Award), Fela! (Tony nomination), and Chicago, and Carney for his performances in musicals like The Great Gatsby on Broadway and Cabaret in the West End.

Texas in Paris is written by Alan Govenar and directed by Akin Babatundé. The production also has scenic design by Jim Morgan, costume design by Christopher Vergara, lighting design by Alan C. Edwards, music supervision and arrangements by Amy Jones, sound design by Jon Weston, wig and makeup design by Jared Janas, projection design by Jason Johnson-Spinos, community outreach by Marcia Pendleton, and production stage management by lark hackshaw.

“Texas in Paris embraces a musical songbook rarely heard in New York theatre. A deeply personal celebration of roots music and its capacity to transform the characters, compelling them to assess their cultural baggage and interact in profound ways with one another in their quest to find common ground,” Govenar said in a statement.

The musical previously premiered off Broadway at The York Theatre in February 2015.
