Dylan Mulvaney to premiere 'The Least Problematic Woman in the World' off Broadway
The TikTok star and actress's one-woman show will play a limited engagement at the Lucille Lortel Theatre this fall, marking her New York stage debut.
Dylan Mulvaney will premiere a new solo show, The Least Problematic Woman in the World, off Broadway at the Lucille Lortel Theatre for a limited time this fall. Performances run from September 20 to November 30 only, with opening night on October 7.
Marking the social media star's New York stage debut, The Least Problematic Woman in the World follows Mulvaney’s odyssey through girlhood, fame, and self-discovery as she went from a Catholic school kid to a trans TikTok icon, with the story featuring original music.
Mulvaney previously performed The Least Problematic Woman in the World at the 2024 Edinburgh Fringe Festival under the title Faghag. Other past theatre credits include the North American tour of The Book of Mormon, How The Grinch Stole Christmas! at San Diego's Old Globe Theatre, and Legally Blonde, Spring Awakening, Bye Bye Birdie and High School Musical at ACT San Diego.
Mulvaney rose to prominence on TikTok in 2022 for sharing the video series "Days of Girlhood," documenting her transition and experiences as a transgender woman. For her social media content and trans rights activism, she has received a Queerties Groundbreaker Award, Streamy Award, Attitude's Woman of the Year Award, and a place on Forbes's 30 Under 30 list.
Additionally, Mulvaney has released music as a solo artist and published the memoir Paper Doll: Notes from a Late Bloomer.
Tim Jackson directs The Least Problematic Woman in the World, returning from the Edinburgh Fringe. The full creative team has yet to be announced.
"It was a true joy to develop this play with Dylan in London, so I’m thrilled we get to reimagine the show for a New York audience, who I know will be dazzled by her glorious wit, talent and electric personality,” said Jackson in a statement. “We’re so happy to have found our home at the magical Lortel Theatre, where audiences can revel in the intimacy of the space, and enjoy an up-close connection to this story of joy, courage and heart.
"Now more than ever we need incredible women like Dylan on our stages, telling their stories, broadening horizons and, in this case, giving us the gift of laughter.”
